One of the best restaurants in Jingan

In our humble opinion. Objects of variation can rarely have one ‘best’, but taking everything into account, this restaurant comes up trumps every time.

Food quality, price, inside feel and such – these are the aspects which all score top marks for Ginza Bairin, that astonishingly reliable Japanese Tonkatsu restaurant.

They already have their Pudong IFC location, which you can read about (as well as another Tonkatsu recommendation in Puxi) in that link.

Now they have a Puxi location, on the second floor of the ‘Reel’ mall on Nanjing West road (the one by the Puli hotel).

The lunchtime deal is heartening: 88 RMB for the best pork, soup, pickles, steamed egg, all you can eat rice (some of the best quality rice in Shanghai), as much shredded cabbage as you like, and with three delicious sauces (and tea). It’s a great deal, but their menu also offers sashimi, Australian beef, deep-fried oysters and other seafood, as well as other Japanese picks such as curry, noodles, roasted potted dishes and more.
