Just outside of the inner ring: Riverside Walk

Only a little outside – even Expat Bubble Enthusiasts should not fear of stepping their first foot out yonder from the confirmed safety of the inner ring road sanctum.

Huangpu River Walk Shanghai China

Where it says ‘Marriot Luwan hotel’ – all you need to do is follow Ruijin road all the way down, under the inner ring road and then keep going. Around the hotel area there is an open kids park with walking areas, foliage and such – and once you are at the river, there is a long, long walkway alongside the river.

It’s a newly constructed area, so it’s relatively empty, and the expanse of the riverside walk means that it is quite people-free.

The new construction will likely have the same predictable and personality-less chains of coffee places and identical offerings … but such is development in a place where copying is still de rigueur, and originality is only slowly sneaking into society.

It’s a nice walk – if you take some photos, please let us know in the comments section so that we can show them off on the site.
